Having displaced from Hong Kong to the North America with her loved ones relocated to Europe, Mermaid has always missed the traditions and cultures from Tai O her hometown, the last fishing village of Hong Kong. Now residing near the water of Lake Ontario, she has been embraced by the new neighbourhood, new friends and the culturally-dynamic community she calls her new home!
The humans, heritage, history, cuisines and architecture here have constantly invited her for the dialogue on cultural roots and identities. Isn't this complicated emotion a common yet unique life-long experience of many diaspora individuals across the oceans?
Mermaid's postcards feature her photos of professionally-styled food of traditions and fusion, communities and cultural roots from Hong Kong, the UK to Canada.
Missing Japan the 'second homeland' of Hong Kongers, she's also fallen in love with crafting Mizuhiki (水引) accessories inspired by the traditional Japanese knotting art.
Mermaid met Carmen at church, that they found out such diaspora emotion has been shared in their everyday life.
Soon this mother from Hong Kong and Mermaid become best buddies in the new chapter of their life journeys - for they both love flowers, their cultural roots, and the traditional crafts from their own cultures.
